It all began in 1970, In the South of Bronx. Most may say that Dj Kool Herc is the one who actually started hip hop. Dj Kool Herc was one of the most popular Dj’s at that time, so when he threw a party everyone was there. While Djing, Kool Herc would do his famous “merry go round” where he would take a break from two songs and put them together and someone in the party would control the mic (mc) and put together the best rhymes they could think of and this is what most believe started hip hop. But it wasn’t until 1979 that hip hop was recognized as a real genre when a rap group name the “surgarhill” group released a single called “rapper’s delights”. The 90’s era introduced us to a lot of great rappers and rap groups, all different but equally great. Then you had a few who stood out individually and are known as the greatest of all time. In my opinion, Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones is one, born september 14, 1973 in crown heights New York. “Nering two decades in the game, Nas is embraced with high esteem, as his mere presence demands attention given his innate knack for leadership coupled with unrelenting lyricism. We’ve watched from the sidelines as Nas achieved a lot: obvious career highlights include his prolific debut with 1994’s Illmatic.” Nas quickly became one of the greatest with his debut album “Illmatic”. Illmatic gave Nas a name and a spotlight. Nas wasn't the only New York Rapper in the 90’s that was labeled as a great artist, but he's one of the men that I commend. Another legend of the 90’s is none other than The Notorious B.I.G. Notorious B.I.G born in Brooklyn, New York was a talented man himself. The west coast brought a whole new style to hip hop. Being led by Dr. Dre a legendary producer.While being produced by Dr. Dre a few rappers from the west coast helped create the west coast style know as the G Funk era. “ Dr. Dre discovered Snoop Doggy Dogg, signed to Death Row Records, and at the end of 1992 released The Chronic, the album that defined G-funk and spawned legions of imitators. This is what started what most people would call a “good run” for the west coast. After Dr Dre released his debut album he began to work with Snoop Dogg’s album. In 1993 Snoop Dogg released his debut album “DoggyStyle”. “ The skits. The flow. The melodies Snoop kicked. The raw raps. [What stood out about the album] was its sound.
