Rick Deckard is a bounty hunter with the San Francisco police department. He lives in an apartment with his wife Iran. Rick Deckard along with the rest of the people living in the apartment, keeps an animal on the roof. Rick’s animal is a mechanical sheep which is a fact that he hides. Rick is an example of the hero archetype not in helping all of the people but in finding out many things about himself and that what he believed was not true. In “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” There is an archetype of religious figure or prophet in Wilbur Mercer. In the book, Wilbur talks to Rick Deckard telling him that he has to kill the androids. It is later found out in the book that Wilbur Mercer was created on a Hollywood set. Rick Deckard towards the end of the book climbs a hill and realizes that he is becoming extremely connected to Mercer. The point of this religion is to invoke empathy on all the people who choose to connect with Mercer as he climbs a hill, suffering.
