Do extracurricular activities keep children out of trouble?

Junior Johnson a Nascar driver, Kevin Mitnick an owner of his own security company, Georgia Durante an owner of a stunt driving company, Frank William Abagnale the owner of a consulting company, what do these names have in common? These are all adults who have been arrested and then turned their lives around by putting their all into an activity which is now a major part of their lives. Now imagine skipping a step for your child, they have an opportunity to find that important activity in their life at an early age wouldn’t you take it? It’s easy to see the work put into and activity as difficult or even not worth it but the results on your future excellence and your future self are worth it all.

Research shows that they bring students closer to school and education by getting better grades and higher GPA averages (ASCD). The research also shows that participating in extracurricular activities gives students of all ages an outlet to develop and pursue their passion (Broers). Everyone is their own person and we all need something different and specified to us to develop our own characters, and as individuals through programs such as these their needs and interest are met with a large variety of options to choose from (ASCD).
