Doe Cornish White Corporation is the nation’s leading manufacturer of implantable silicone medical devices. A consumer stated that our silicone breast implants were responsible for her immune system dysfunction. The suit resulted in a trial where the recipient recovered a multi-million judgement against the company. As has already been stated in the memorandum, young women are claiming that the breast implants are causing immune system problems are suing the company. At the present time the company has one very important question that it needs answered, “Is the breast implant actually causing an immune system dysfunction?” The company needs to figure out the answer to this question first and foremost in order to figure out how to proceed with the situation and realize the solution needs to do more than simply minimizing legal liabilities. The company had conducted research in regards to the effect of silicone in the body, with no serious side effects found. This research was conducted before the 1980’s when there laws were very lenient. Tests were performed to determine what local tissue reaction the implant caused, whether it could be carcinogenic, and how the material aged in the body. These tests were the basic safety procedures that were conducted at the time, which conformed to the industry’s standard. At the time there were no tests made to determine the effect of the implant on the immune system since none were
