Specific Purpose: After listening to our presentation, our audience will understand the significance of narcissism and how it can negatively affect people.

Introduction I. Attention-Getter: Narcissus in Greek mythology. Narcissus was a handsome young man who wanders the world rejecting potential romantic partners because he does not find any of them worthy of him. Unable to love anyone but himself, Narcissus falls in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. II. Personal Credibility: Along with everyone in the world I am narcissistic. I am probably more narcissistic then the average person and I have seen some negative effects of my narcissistic personality throughout my life. III. Thesis: Narcissism has many detrimental effects on people, and awareness of this problem can only serve to lessen this impact on society.

Body I. There is one bag of candy; we want everyone in the class to construct a 30 second speech on why they believe that they deserve the candy. People are narcissistic without realizing it lots of the time, we are going to point out peoples narcissistic behaviors.

II. There are many characteristics and factors of narcissism. A. The four main factors of narcissism include: Entitlement, leadership/authority, superiority/arrogance, and self-absorption/self-admiration.
B. Other characteristics of narcissism include: believing you are special or more unique then others, and lacking the ability to empathize or to take the perspective of others.

III. Today’s generation is becoming more and more narcissistic. A. Today’s generation is ten percent more narcissistic than it was a generation ago. B. Much of the new economy today has
