Before this past summer, I never thought that some people live in such horrible conditions. During my mission trip to the Dominican Republic, I was able to see how bad some places have it compared to our country. The schools in the Dominican Republic is very different compared to America. First of all, schools cancel in America for ice on the roads, sometimes fog, and other weather conditions. But in the Dominican Republic, they will cancel school even if it is a little bit of rain. Secondly, most children and teens feel like they are forced to come to school in America. Although most children and teens feel like that in America, the children in the Dominican Republic love being able to learn new things, and they like having the attention on them unlike they do at home. Lastly, teens who live in America and live to far from the local school get to ride a bus there and also back home. The teens who live in a batey, which is a small group of people who settled by sugar mills, have to walk to and from school even if it is 5 to 10 miles away. Most homes have good flooring and some are bigger in America compared to the ones in the Dominican Republic. First, the homes in the bateyes have dirt flooring all throughout. Next, the homes in the Dominican Republic are nine by nine, but if they have more than four kids they are able to have an extra six feet on the back. The houses in America usually have way more than just one room. Lastly, the walls are usually one board of wood thick, and it most of the wood is tearing away in the Dominican.
