His villainy is not an innate trait but rather, he chooses it to distinguish him from others. Don Pedro is the Prince of Aragon and is highly respected throughout the play, whereas Don John is treated with cautious attention and indifference. This causes conflict in the play which makes the book longer. In Comparison, Don John and Don Pedro have similar characteristics throughout the book. Don John tricks Claudio and Don Pedro into thinking that Hero is unfaithful to Claudio. “The word is too good to paint out her wickedness; I could say she were worse: think you of a worse title, and I will fit her to it.
