Charles Macaulay twin of Camilla is a very charming, gray-eyed and blonde, angelic man. He looks a lot like his twin sister and was thought to be very similar to her but really is not. He was more comfortable to be with, impulsive and generous, but more moody. He sometimes had long gloomy spells but mostly pretty talkative. The author, Donna Tartt, said in an interview that she’s not really planning to right a thriller fiction because she finds it thin on character and poorly written but ended up writing it (VCU Cabell First Novelist Award). The story focuses in the relationship of the teacher-student, life of college students, classics, and murder. She wanted to connect her knowledge in classics in the story. She uses the way how usually Greek tragedies were like. She used it as an element to meet the conflict that she wanted to express in the novel. She illustrates the list of events in a very decent way and was able to successfully identify the characteristic of the characters. The novel was about friendship, lies, fear, and betrayal, obsession with beauty, murder, and tragedy. The way the characters especially Henry saw beauty and value of life was way more different than how usual people see. They lived in their own world; full of Greek beliefs. They were consumed by the life of Ancient Greek people, the culture, traditions, beliefs and rituals. Commit sins like murder and incest.
