Lacy Van Zant and Marion Virginia Hicks Van Zant gave birth to Ronnie Van Zant on January 15th, 1948. Little did Lacy and Marion know that there kid would change the generation of music. Ronnie Van Zant was born in Jacksonville Florida. To live in Jacksonville Florida you had to be tough, especially where Ronnie grew up. Ronnie grew up on Mull street with his two brothers and three sisters.
Donnie Van Zant was the second oldest and was born on June 11,1952 and the youngest out of the three was Johnny Van Zant . Johnny was born in February 27,1959. Ronnies sisters were Joanne Morris Van Zant, Darlene Grant, and Mariene Hodge. Ronnie was the oldest out of all of them. Ronnies sisters were not famous for anything so there birth dates are unknown. Ronnie’s other passion was fishing. Him and his friends would go down by Cedar Creek, because it would help him help relax and take a break from the crappy town called Jacksonville. The reason why Jacksonville, Florida was so bad was because of the place was segregated. The blacks were on one side of the city and the whites on the other.
Ronnie Van zant went to Robert E. Lee High School. Ronnie started to like music when he got ahold of his dad's guitar and piano. Ronnie heard that a group he knew at Lakeshore Junior High where trying to get a singer for their band. Ronnie auditioned and got to be the singer. The people in the band knew that he would beat them up so he got to be apart of the band.
Shortly after when Ronnie was apart of the band he met Gary Rossington and Bob Burns. Gary, Bob, and Ronnie decided to make a band themselves.
