The case of Moore v. Central Carolina Surgical Eye Associates, P.A. (2013) started in June 21, 2011 when the plaintiff Doris Moore sought the care of Dr. Richard Epes an employee of Central Carolina Surgical Eye Associates (CCSEA) for left eye cataract surgery. According to the plaintiff during her surgery Dr. Epes dislodged the intraocular lens (IOL) into the vitreous of the posterior portion of her eye. Dr. Epes post-operative note stated that the posterior capsule was torn with unknown etiology, this is different from his original surgery notes stating the posterior capsule of the eye was torn by the IOL. A CCSEA employee informed the plaintiff’s husband about the dislodged IOL. Mrs. Moore was referred to Dr. John Mathews another employee
