Northeast Arkansas Then and Now Dorothy Northcutt is 61 years old, and has lived in Northeast Arkansas her whole life. She helps her husband, Robert Northcutt, on their cattle farm. She used to work at Townsend in the hatchery, and from 1998-2012 she helped her husband in raising chickens. Recently she answered questions about life in Northeast Arkansas, and the changes that have happened over time. From all of her time living here, the has seen jobs come and go, but memories that last a lifetime. I recently had the privilege of interviewing my grandmother, Dorothy Northcutt, about life in Northeast Arkansas. Dorothy says that she has lived in Northeast Arkansas for 61 years and in all of her time living her, she has seen many changes.
“I would say that the biggest change that I have seen would be jobs. As time progressed people began to put their knowledge to use and get business jobs and more factories. I also see families spending less time together. Used to we had dinners at the table and sat around and talked about how our day was, and now everyone’s face is stuck in a phone and there is no family atmosphere”.
The last question that I felt like would really tie up our interview was, “Are the differences that you see between then and now what you expected to see while you were growing up? If not, what were you expecting?”
She replied with, “I expected a change but not as much as I see now. Growing up I never really took the time to think about what the future would look like, but looking back I can now see that what I was expecting is not
