My overall impressions after reading Dr. Lewis Beebe's diary was shocked, troubled, and frightened. Dr. Lewis Beebe was unable to fight various of the illnesses that were spread among the camp but still stuck around to help the soldiers. It was shocking and frightening to read how Dr. Lewis Beebe described death as a daily companion. In his diary, he lists the people that died from day to day continuously. Dr. Lewis Beebe's took note of the troops strong patriotism and lack religion. It was troubling to read how little Dr. Lewis Beebe's could do for the soldiers.
