So you see Louisiana State University has more interesting things to it than just the “Fighting Tigers.” The history, traditions and activities of LSU also make up and play a major part in making LSU the place it is today. All hail to thee our Alma Mater, molder of mankind. May greater glory, love unending be forever thine. Our worth in life will be thy worth we pray to keep it true. And may thy spirit live in us, forever L-S-U.

1) LGA passed legislation for state institution of higher education in 1853.
2) The school shut down because of Civil War in 1861, reopened but closed again
Because of the red river valley invasion and got burned in 1869.
3) It opened again in 1870 as LSU but Louisiana State Agricultural & Mechanical College was established by an act of the legislature.
4) The two schools merged in 1877 and have been together since.
