Drosophila Flies Lab Report

Drosophila flies were used in a lab to test how traits are passed down through generations by observing wing structure or eye color. Eye color was either white for mutant or red for wild type, which is what this data represents. Drosophila flies were easy to use for this experiment because they are small and easy to take care of. The flies can be kept in small, transportable vials and only need to be fed a few times with media that is placed in the bottom of the vials. The time it takes for the female flies to produce offspring is very short, which makes it easy to quickly mate the flies and examine offspring, unlike many other organisms.
