The applicant requests an upgrade of his under other than honorable conditions discharge to honorable. The applicant state, that in 2013, he made a mistake by abusing a controlled substance, was placed in rehab (probation), and successfully completed the Army Substance Abuse Program. The applicant states that he was under the assumption, he was going to deploy with his unit to Afghanistan and get away from his problems at home. The applicant contends that while his unit was deployed to Afghanistan, he was feeling depressed, and to assist him to go to sleep at night, he choose to self-medicate utilizing marijuana to relieve his depression.
