The common ground consists of that both sides want to reduce teen drug abuse. An article that covers frequently asked questions about drug testing in schools explains how drugs negatively affect teens. The article states that, “teens brains and bodies are still developing, and this makes them very vulnerable to the harmful effects of drug use.” (Frequently Asked Questions About Drug Testing in Schools, 2014). When teens use drugs it can change their behavior in a negative way. Teens who repetitively take drugs will most likely lead to addiction. Therefore, with the main goal to help teens stay away from drugs in highschool, they would less likely develop an addiction later in life. With that being said, if the issue is not being fixed, it will continue to hurt the next generation which will make or break society. The pro side believes that drug testing is the best solution, whereas the opposing side believes the parents are responsible to find the best solution for their kids. My proposal consists of creating a plan to develop a program at a young age that focuses on a healthier lifestyle. The objectives for the program would surround around teaching students how the brain works chemically and overall good health. This is a great way to start educating the youth about obtaining a healthier lifestyle, emotionally, physically, and mentally. This could would be a mandatory semester class for each year from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Also, it would be beneficial to make drug testing optional for parents and guardians to decide whether they want their teenager drug tested or not. This makes it open to those who are willing to be tested. This solves the problem of the students rights being infringed since their parents or guardians are making the decision. It also decreases the chance of the teenager taking drugs due to random drug testing and the student being knowledgeable about the consequences for testing
