The first thing I would like to know from Jones would be how long he was having problems at home with his wife. I believe that by giving him the opportunity to discuss his problem he may open up more about the events of that night. After allowing him to finish speaking, I would ask how counseling at the Fleet and Family Support Center was going. Depending on how counseling was going at the center could affect one of my decisions at the end of the proceeding. My next couple questions would be focused more on the drinking side of the problem. First I would ask Jones why he drove when he knew that drinking and driving is a serious offense. Second, I would ask how long he had been drinking during the evening. Next, I would ask how far it was from his house to his friends, then his friends place to the bar. If the answer was a reasonably short distance from place to place, my follow up question would be to ask why he didn’t just walk. My final question to clarify the situation would be, if it was a long distance from place to place, why not just stay at his friends place after having a few drinks. Jones’s wife may be mad at him for not coming home, but it would’ve avoided a Captain’s Mast which could potentially result in worse
