Once the law was in effect there was no set definition of what level of intoxication qualified as drunk driving. In 1984, The National Minimum Drinking Act required states to pass individual legislation raising the drinking age to 21, furthermore, in 2000, Congress adopted .08 BAC as the national illegal limit for impaired driving. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers or MADD is an organization that’s had a big influence in enforcing stricter law against drunk driving. In 2015, 9,967 people were killed in the United States and approximately 290,000 injured. Every 53 minutes on average someone killed in a drunk driving crash and every 2 minutes someone is injured. Let’s think about this for a moment, every 2 minutes someone is injured and every 53 minutes someone is killed which means this is still a major issue. People including children are taken away from their family, friends, or co –workers for over alcohol drinks. It just doesn’t make sense why people are still drinking and driving to risk killing or injuring themselves and others. The problem of drunk driving continues and the solution is to provide more funding to organization like Mothers Against Drunk Driving and We Save
