Dry Powder is the first play I’ve gone to in over 5 years so it felt very invigorating to watch a live performance again, especially a local one now that I have more inside knowledge on the world of theatre thanks to this class. I was particularly excited for this “assignment” because it didn’t feel like one at all, I got to contribute to my local arts community and watch a very talked about play and then get to write how my experience was, this is the assignment that I hope every student wishes for. Personally, going to see Dry Powder really made me appreciate Miami’s local art scene more and made me enthusiastic about getting to go see more local productions in town. Dry Powder really cemented the notion I already had of large corporations and how the financial industry really is. Jenny wants the deal to happen but wants to move jobs to offshore factories which would leave a lot more revenue for the company since they wouldn’t have to pay American wages instead they could cheat off and pay the bare minimum to those in third world companies. I love the decision made by the writer to make the money hungry and dominating persona in the play, a woman, because usually women are usually the sweet compassionate beings overcome by emotions not money or power which is what makes Jenny’s character so interesting and fresh. While Jenny’s idea will definitely earn way more for the company, it completely goes against the deal that Seth had worked with the owner of the luggage company they were going to purchase named Jeff, and it puts him in a very sticky situation although even Jeff is highly tempted by all the dollar
