Assessment is an essential component of the teaching and learning process. It helps assessors to determine whether or not the learners have acquired the knowledge and skills that they need to gain. However, the assessment is not effective if learners are not involved in the process. Involving learners and others in the assessment process is crucial to the development of the learner.

For example, a student who is struggling with reading comprehension may benefit from targeted interventions to improve their literacy skills. By identifying these areas of need through diagnostic assessment, assessors can provide more focused and individualized support to help the student succeed.This information helps me plan an appropriate course of action where necessary.It also allows my learners to inform me of anything which might affect their progress. For instance, communication is one of the core units in adult care. The learner most likely has already achieved this module during their training for the care certificate. If so, the learner is given the opportunity to gain extra knowledge to develop themselves. If my learner wasn’t involved, they could needlessly repeat this module. Other ways in which the learners prior achievement id establish is by involving their workplace supervisor. The supervisor is provided with appropriate resources to establish the learners skills and knowledge.
