Everyone is prone to making mistakes, but the best person is one that learns from a mistake and becomes a better human being. The main character Duddy went through a very tough upbringing. The ability to learn from his mistakes helped him change into a respectful person. His family continuously discriminated against Duddy at a very early age. EXPERIENCES:

Duddy’s willingness to go the extra length and to endure continuous hardships throughout the novel, stems from feeling inferior to his family members. During his upbringing, he was always ignored and shown disdain by his father and his Uncle . His father always focused on his brother Lennie, the more successful sibling. Lenny was a struggling medical student whereas Duddy just a highschool graduate. The only individual that had faith in Duddy’s capabilities was his grandfather, who was Duddy’s primary motivation.
