Dynamic Characters In The Giver

In “The Giver” Jonas is the biggest example of a dynamic character in the novel. The people who change during the book in the most important ways are Jonas and The Giver. Jonas is the biggest example, because he matures and changes in so many ways during the story. Throughout the book we see Jonas mature from a compliant young boy to a knowledgeable young man. In the beginning of the book, Jonas is just a normal Eleven in his community. He does what he is told, and does not question things. Although he is very thoughtful and questions his surroundings. When he feels nervous about the Ceremony of Twelve, he carefully tries to name the emotion he is feeling. Jonas also ends up learning how the world was without Sameness. As he learns how the world has changed, he ends up changing too. He soon gets to be confused, and then unhappy, with the community’s lack of color and choices. When Jonas asks to see a release, he realizes that release means the person is killed. He cannot believe that his father kills babies. He comes to understand that his community is hiding dark secrets. After realizing this, Jonas decides to leave the community and return the memories back to the community. When he finds out Gabe is going to be released, he leaves earlier than planned and takes Gabe with him.
Jonas has gone from an obedient child to a man rebelling against his community. He runs away, and risks the consequence of death if he is caught. Eventually, he makes it to Elsewhere and rescues Gabe while also being able to experience the things he’s seen in his memories for the first
