When writers like Humphries and Lane acknowledge the flaws in the hearing world, they are exposing the audism that has been present throughout all of history and how present it still is today. Deaf people are affected by autism every day of their lives. From cochlear implant discriminatory discussions to people like Alexander Graham Bell, autism poisons the rivers of the Deaf community. An example of audism, told by ASL Rose, says the following, “I have experienced audism in all environments, ranging from the time a hearing man shied away from me in an elevator when he found out I was Deaf to the time I found myself arguing with administrators and teachers of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind for an hour and a half using ASL with my son in their classrooms and seeing them get really angry with me because they were using SEE/Sim-Com in their classrooms at that point.
