The notion of time is never consistent, although it progresses linearly, film and other media forms portrays the past, present and future in a multitude of different ways. The depiction of time periods are commonly subjective, shown through, idealistic and disastrous variations of the same decade. Constructed realities regarding the past and the future are commonly generated through the ideals and issues existing in the present. This is evident in the manner in which media is utilized as a platform to employ allegory or fiction to bring attention to pressing issues in society. In the process of situating the artist within a social context, various conceptions of possible future environments where explored. In dystopian societies function usually holds precedence over appearance, although in this instance ideas of beauty altered to fit the environment. Clothing took on a more steam punk or “green punk” aesthetic combining the elements of old and new technology and fashion. The green punk look combines the aspects of steam punk and cyber punk style, which can be identified by its high tech yet grungy appearance. This look is commonly associated with setting such as a future earth or a post-apocalyptic environment .Additionally in 2050 due to the scarcity of actual plant life, artificial or simulated nature is incorporated into people’s clothes, through prints and textures. This is done as a means of replicating and or remembering nature. Imelda utilizes these aspects of popular fashion, during her time, in her designs, while incorporating actual plant and natural materials in her clothing
