My experience at the EJI sculpture park was inspirational. Being able to see the different artworks impact the history of not only African Americans, but also native Americans. Going to this site has led me to become more knowledgeable about my history as an African American woman. This park filled me with sentiment, although, most of the artwork in the park was powerful and fascinating, three art pieces stood out to me. Buffalos hold a very important and sacred meaning for many tribes. Native Americans saw buffalo as an older brother. In some tribes, buffalo were well respected and worshipped. The men made the bricks. This was not just a one man job, but a family. Families faced these challenges, also having to deal with the racism that came with just living in this country. This art piece was very empowering for me because many of my family members who were alive during this time were victims of poverty. Another statue that stood out to me was a boy on the back of a horse. This statue is so powerful and very detailed. I felt many indescribable emotions when viewing this statue. This statue is almost a mixture of two time periods. I noticed that the horse had things on that looked to be used in the 1900s, but looking at the boy, he was wearing sneakers. Seeing this statue immediately made me feel the sorrow and need to protect our black young boys in America. I felt this way because in my eyes, this sculpture showed me the downfall of not being able to protect and reassure black boys and young men in the community. I felt sorrow and a very empowering feeling overflowing from this art piece. This park made me understand and realize the importance of my heritage and history. I believe that this shined a bright light on the darkness of our history, while also informing us how much African Americans
