I have spent the bulk of my childhood in scouting. The day I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout was my entrance into adulthood. Cub Scouts began at age 6 as a tiger cub. After four years I worked up to Webelo, which stands for We’ll Be Loyal Scouts, and at age 12 became an official Boy Scout. By the summer of 2014, I had achieved the rank of Life Scout; the last step before Eagle Scout. In order to become an Eagle Scout, one must complete the 21 required merit badges and 10 non-required badges. As well as an Eagle Scout project. I must plan, raise funds, supervise, and complete the project with minimal help from others. A close family member lives there and it was important to “give back” to them. The project was three parts: landscaping (installation of five large and six small juniper evergreens), window boxes (installation of three boxes six feet in length), and a butterfly garden (mulch, two butterfly bushes, and three decorative grasses). Last was a large stone and a bird bath to commemorate the project. The first surveying pictures were taken in early January 2015 and total completion was September 2015, a very long process. This was quite an undertaking; it required many of the skills I had learned through being a boy scout. As a patrol leader I spent hours planning campouts and service projects.
