My topic is about eating disorders. I chose to research about this topic because I know that my future career, CBT therapist, helps people with eating disorders. The purpose in this topic is to learn each type of eating disorders. I decided to talk about the types and their symptoms, treatments and living conditions. Anorexia victims show extreme fear of gaining weight. They feel "fat" despite their noticeable weight loss. They are always concerned about their body weight and shape; they deny their conflict with their physical appearance. Bulimia victims will feel out of control during a binge. Therapy along with nutritional education and medical treatment, can help manage or battle eating disorders. It's important to get an early diagnosis and treatment because it increases your chances of recovery. Unfortunately, only 1 in 10 people receive treatment. There are different types of therapies that can help victims. The type of therapy depends on the specific eating disorder. But generally, the goal is to reestablish the person to a healthy weight, treat any psychological problem, and reduce any behaviors/thoughts that contribute to the eating disorders. A victim might have to continue therapy so they don't relapse. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often an element for treatment. It takes 10-20 sessions, which might be done individually, in a group or with the victim's family. It changes unhealthy thoughts and the patient's behavior. This therapy is done along with other treatment options. Nutrional counseling plays an important role to recover and for long-term success. Dietitians help you establish normal eating habits. Underweight or overweight patients may benefit from a medically supervised diet to return them to a healthy weight. Medically assisted treatment, psychotherapy, and other treatments
