After observing students with emotional behavior EBD using computer-assisted instruction, I decided it was time to ask them what were there thoughts about computer-assisted instruction. The students with EBD were asked one by one to come into a quiet room and sit on a comfortable light blue sofa to discuss their experience with computer-assisted instruction. Of course, I had to explain to the students with EBD the actually meaning of computer-assisted instruction. Each individual, face-to-face interview lasted about 20-30 minutes. The response of the students with EBD was interesting and entertaining. The seven students with EBD obviously enjoyed using the computer-assisted instruction. After interviewing the students with EBD, two themes were emerged: Students were excited to use the computer and Mathematics was better on the computer. It was surprising that the students with EBD talked about how they whether do mathematics on the computer than complete worksheets. Kathy explained that completing worksheets is the thing of the past. She felt that working on the computer is what the world is doing now and the class should start just doing work on the computer. She apologize by saying that she does not think I am a boring teacher but computers help her enjoy mathematics better.
Mike and Rick also had some interesting comments about receiving computer-assisted instruction. They describe how the work they were completing was colorful and kept their attention longer. Mike stated that the pictures with the numbers help him understand what was going on with the problem. In an exciting voice, he declared that we should do work on the computer for now on.
