Date assignment issued: Final Completion Date: |
Welcome to your first assignment for BTEC Level 3 Business Studies. In order to make sure that you complete the unit on time and meet all your deadlines, you will find that the assignment is broken down into key tasks.
Each task will start with the part of the grading criteria that the task relates to, example P1, P2. It will finish with a deadline for the task to be completed.
The aim of this unit is to give you the fundamental knowledge of a range of business organisations, and the many factors that shape the nature of organisations operating in an increasingly complex business world.
The tasks that you complete will involve you doing many different things, such as giving a presentation, using ICT to present business reports and feeding back on visits or guest speakers. The learning outcomes of the unit are for you to:
1. Know the range of different businesses and their ownership
2. Understand how businesses are organised to achieve their purposes
3. Know the impact of the economic environment on businesses
4. Know how political, legal and social factors impact on business.
You will have plenty of opportunities to get feedback on the quality of your work and whether it meets the grading criteria, but it is really important that you stick to the given deadlines otherwise it makes giving feedback difficult!
Task 1 Working on P1Working on P2 | Carry out an investigation into two contrasting types of business organisations from different sectors (you could choose one in the private sector and one in the public sector). You should consider stakeholder influence in the two organisations, and your report should focus on: * Business activity, for example, local, national, global * Business sector * Business purpose * Ownership of the business * Key stakeholders of the businessMake sure that the businesses you choose will give you enough information to work with for the assignment. This could be through: * Research on the internet; * Interviewing relevant people from the firm; * Observations done during a visit to their premises; * Any other ways you can think of;Sole trader: http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/no31/no31index.htm Partnership: http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/ling/lingindex.htm Ltd: http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/hff/hffindex.htm PLC: http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/domino/domindex.htm Charity: http://www.bized.co.uk/compfact/daychocolate/chocindex.htm Describe the type of business, purpose and ownership of two contrasting organisations. An internet search using the name of the business/organisation will be a good starting point. You should download a company report for any private sector company. You should also study recent news reports to get the latest changes in the activities of the two organisations. You should not spend too much time on the history, but it may be helpful to give a brief introduction showing how and why the business was set up, and how it was charged to become what it is today.Describe the different stakeholders who influence the purpose of these contrasting organisations.Reading company reports about your chosen organisations and other literature they produce will give you a good idea of who the main stakeholders are in these organisations. Look through the report to identify specific mentions of stakeholder groups and ways that the organisation is seeking to engage with these groups, for example, through meetings and other communications. * What sorts of relationships is the company seeking to build with different groups? * You may feel that some groups get more attention than others. Why do you think this happens? | |
