The conflict of the novel is the unsolved murder of a dog, figuring out the murderer has a great deal to do with Ed Boone, Christopher’s Father. After the murder of Wellington, Christopher has an immense fascination with the case. He loved the murder mystery novels such as the classic Sherlock Holmes, influencing his interest in solving the case.
