In this short memo, I present the recommendations of how the case of Mayor Ed Murray and the Seattle Historic Fight for $15 could have been solved more effectively. The Murray’s deal for the $15 per hour minimum wage pay came as a result of the 2013 campaigns in which the Mayor used this promise as his primary manifesto for the people of Seattle County. However, the citizens felt that it was taking too long for the Mayor to live up to their promise and through the civil society movement, the people were planning a new and dangerous twist for the demonstration. The Mayor’s re-election became threated. Chaos escalated as the Mayor pressurized the policy management team to work on the strategy to be announced to the people who were already waiting outside Murray’s office. Secondly, Ed Murray has had a significant contribution towards the civil rights campaign. He particularly contributed to the passage of the LGBT marriage equality rights that allowed marriage rights like same-sex marriage. Lastly, it is his campaign for the implementation of the minimum wage equality that made him tremendously win the Seattle Mayoral seat. A large number of the committee members could not deliver result for the implementation of the minimum wage strategy.
Opinions
There were opinions that if Murray failed to deliver his agenda, he would not be re-elected as a mayor. The labor movement led by David Rolf was causing a significant threat to the position of the Mayor. Secondly, some opined that the increase in the minimum wage will further harm the low-income earners due to further taxation and cutting of employee benefits that were possible.
