Sir Edmund Barton was the first Prime Minister of Australia from 1901 until 1903, he was also a politician and judge, in 1903 he then became a founding justice of the High Court of Australia until his death. Sir Edmund Barton contributed to the Australian federation in the 1890s and soon moved to the Australian House of Representatives seat of Hunter at the inaugural 1901 federal election. Barton was born in Sydney, he was the ninth child out of eleven child of English parents William and Mary Louise Barton. He was brought into the catholic community on the Fourth of July 1849. After graduating Sydney Grammar School and attending Sydney University and receiving high honours he soon became a barrister in 1871. On
