I do however want to change the wording from “creating” to “utilising” the physical environment as “creating” suggests that a teacher must start from scratch, and can make the task of using the physical features of a classroom to the teacher’s advantage seem formidable. The word “utilise” changes the physical environment from a laborious task of organisation to a tool that is always at the teacher’s disposal. The physical environment also includes more than simply moving desks and chairs around. The physical environment should be defined as all the items inside a classroom (desks, chairs, boards, cupboards, heaters, fans, curtains etc), the features that make up the classroom (walls, doors, windows, locations and colours), influences from outside the classroom (noise from next door, people, houses, animals and cars visible outside) and lastly where the classroom is located inside the school or campus area (How far away from the library, student services, the toilets [male and female], oval, staffroom is the classroom located?). These are all tools that can be used by the teacher for various reasons to improve different aspects of classroom management, especially regarding forming relationships and a learning
