In today's society education is really important. Education has evolved a lot over time and has shaped American society. A few decades ago, education was not as important because many jobs did not have educational requirements. In those days, you could have a high school diploma, and get a decent job supporting your family. Today however, if you only have a high school diploma the types of jobs that you can get include fast food restaurants or maybe construction work. Also, there are the few people that dropped out to start a business and became millionaires. I think you have better chances of winning the lottery than for that to happen to you. Playing it safe, would be to get your college degree which is essential to your economic success and your ability to get a good job that pays well.
One reason why students drop out of college is because they experience the freedom do whatever they like such as entertainment and parties, rather than focusing on getting their assignments done. In most cases, professors do not assign any major exams or papers for the first couple weeks, which make them, believe it will be just like high school. Students will not realize it, until they are so far behind, they panic. They start spending all-nighters frantically trying to catch up on the homework they neglected for weeks. Sadly they think the only alternative is to drop out of college.
Prior to entering college, I felt that it would be very challenging for me because of what my friends that were already attending college told me. I feel that high public school as a whole does not prepare you for the college level work. In high school I studied very little or didn’t study at all and I was still able to maintain an A average. At the college level you cannot study very little and expect to get the same results.
