EHealth Strategic Plan for New South Wales
This paper is discussed based on the blueprint for eHealth in New South Wales (NSW). It is set out on the states’ government principles and directions for using the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to bring improvements and enhancements in health and medical care in NSW over the next five years. The Minister of Health released the blueprint on 18 December 2013. The blueprint is developed as refreshment and an upgrade to the NSW eHealth Strategic Plan 2006-2011.

One of the systems to be implemented is the facility of Electronic Medical Records (eMRs). eMRs facilitate flexible digital input, storing, display, printing and sharing of patient information across various facilities and for many users. NSW eHealth has been quite successful in implementing eMRs as 142 of the hospitals (80% of the bed base) provide clinicians with eMR functionality that allows them to order tests, schedule surgery and organize electronic discharge summaries. The other systems implemented include Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Enterprise Imaging Repository (EIR). As of 2013, 50% of the local health districts used EIR while majority of the hospitals in NSW now receive digitised radiology reports for patients in less than 24 hours for quicker and accurate diagnosis and treatment plans for patients (Health NSW, …show more content…
Denmark is considered one of the best examples of eHealth advances. Under the health system of Denmark, the Ministry of Health is accountable for all the policies and the coordination of eHealth. They also have two significant organisations functioning the national eHealth infrastructure.
