First, they need to participate in scrimmages. (know the situation in the game, the play they have to make to get an out, and communicating with one another.) Shortstop is one of the worse yet best position to be in. The reason why it can be the worst position to be in is because this position is always busy. They have to back up third base, pitcher, second base, and outfield. The reason why it is the best is because coaches see how good you are and will want you in that position each year you play. Make sure when being a shortstop player each position is backed up, because if no one backs them up, the ball can pass them and pass the shortstop and go to the outfield and they try to avoid all of that.
Third, being able to throw fast and precise is a good beginning to this sport. These are two fundamentals that get taught at the beginning of practice. Reason of being able to throw fast and precise is mainly to get the ball from point a to b and possibly a c if there is one.
