The poem, “Ego Tripping: there may be a reason why” by Nikki Giovanni compressed a description of the ego of the Earth within only 51 lines of poetry. Giovanni wrote this poem to express to those who appreciate the beauty of Earth were it came from. Giovanni’s inclusion of certain words and phrases all play a purpose in expressing her message of the beauty of Earth. In the poem, “Ego Tripping”, Nikki Giovanni emphasizes the use of lower ego by purposely including the use lower case letters to describe symbolic figures such as ,”allah”,”jesus” and “nefertiti”.
Giovani’s use of lower case letters for the word,”allah” emphasizes the use of lower ego in the poem. In the poem, “Ego Tripping” the use of the lower case letters in the word “allah” was mentioned in lines 8-9,”I sat on the throne….drinking nectar with allah.” The emphasize of lower ego was expressed when the word “allah”, meaning God, in the Islam religion was lower cased in the poem (Allah).By lower casing the letter A in the word,”allah” which is typically an uppercased word emphasizes …show more content…

By lower casing the letter J in the word,”jesus” which is typically an uppercased word emphasizes the use of lower ego because Giovanni choose to not even use the full name of Jesus Christ in the peom.By Giovanni choosing to lower casing the letters of a symbolic figure such as a Jesus Christ, demonstrates that neither Jesus Christ nor the ego of the Earth is more important than the other demonstrating lower
