A. Council, I Elais Boudinot come her today a proud Cherokee. I was raised by a white man where I adopted my name. I was educated at the mission schools at Spring Place and Cornwall. I was also raised Christian. My teachers knew me for my mild, endearing manner and gentle disposition. I married a white woman I met at school and experienced the harsh reality of racism because of it. I have a famous speech entitled "An Address to the Whites" that has been published as a small book. I have been selected editor of a new newspaper, the Cherokee Phoenix by the Cherokee principal chief John Ross. Resigned from Cherokee Phoenix after the leadership decided not to publish articles advocating removal. I
