The Elderly and Their Driving Do you ever wonder what it's like to be old and driving? Or how about the technology not only in today's world, but the testing to see who is capable enough to drive and who isn't? What about those self driving cars that everyone has been waiting impatiently for? Well, as thrilling as it may sound, it has taken many long hours of research, testing, and tweaking to find all of the answers to the questions that are asked frequently. Many things are known, and have been proven to help improve our system and how we better Elderly Driving Safety, but the most important things that can be discussed is how has their safety been? Each year their abilities change more, and with the world growing even more it is hard for them to adapt to driving in the right way. There are three major keys that run a heavy effect on the elderly, the first is vision, which if not already bad in their young age, it will only get worse as their age progresses. The next is cognition which is the mind and the ability it can sustain but can change with things like “medical problems such as dementia and medicine side effects.” Finally one of the key factors is motor function which runs off of diseases such as arthritis and alzheimer's. These visits should happen more often than not, especially if things occur like falls, confusion, immobility and then an emergency evaluation should happen. (College of Family Physicians . (03 , March 03). But after all of this work, what could change? What cars and resources could we have to offer to the elderly? Especially those who go through all of this
