She heard a whoosh and still feeling timid, looked down into the water and was greeted with two blinking eyes. A god emerged from the ocean and inquired, “I am Phorcy, a sea god, where are you journeying to?” She replied, “I am going to defeat the Darkness.” Phorcys’ face contorted with rage and said, “You will never defeat the Darkness it will reign forever!” He whistled and Ketea, the two sea monsters, appeared looking menacing. Electra’s face paled as she realized why her father never returned home. Phorcys watched in delight as the two sea monsters created a whirlpool that was bigger than her castle at home. Her father’s tale of death played in her head, the goddess of mischief, Aite, had come to her kingdom and told how her father, Ayleth, had been defeated. He was on the same ship Electra was now on when he saw an island to stop and rest. As he lay down in a seemingly empty cave, Orthos who was a two-headed dog, attacked Ayleth and a Cyclops took his blood and wrote ‘the Darkness reigns’. Electra remembered her mom sobbing hysterically and fleeing to her chamber. She did not want her mom to suffer through another death, this gave her the motivation to stay alive. Pandora tried again to convince her, “It will be really fun? You might gain experience for your battle against the Darkness?” Electra tried not to let it bother her that Pandora’s sentences sounded like questions. “I suppose we could explore, but only for a little while.” Pandora’s face lit up and she grabbed Electra in a hug. “This will be so fun? Thank you for agreeing?” Electra again attempted to hide her annoyance, she changed the subject. “So, what are you the goddess of anyway?” Pandora responded, “I am the Goddess of Curiosity?” Electra said internally, “Well that makes sense.” The boat approached the island and the girls walked onto shore. They went to the entrance of the Underworld and Charon, the ferryman, told the girls to come aboard the ship for a token. Pandora pulled one out of her pocket and handed it over happily. Shades, dead souls of humans, boarded the boat as well, to be taken to the Underworld as their final dwelling place. When they reached the other side the girls stepped off the boat and followed the shades. The Underworld had lava pits everywhere and fire shot through the ground at unexpected times.
