Elie’s use of parallelism emphasizing his loss of faith during his time at the concentration camps. As he witnessed the genocide of Jewish people throughout his youth he began to question the word of his God. Therefore, he felt unable to praise, or even thank his God, because he had created so many terrible things. His use of “Because” at the beginning of his sentences lists the very reasons why he has loss faith.
