Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s document, The Solitude of Self is a perfect example of how revolutionary documents helped shape revolutionary events. Many revolutions were influenced by the era of Enlightenment, during this time there was a rethinking of the rules of society which led to the reconsideration of women’s role in society. Up until this point women were inferior to men they did not have legal rights and did not have any independence in economic, political, and civic matters.
