Elon Musk was born June 28, 1971 in South Africa. Growing up, he was very involved in computer coding and electrical engineering (due in part to his father being an electromechanical engineer). By the tender age of 12, Elon had already taught himself basic computer programming, and sold his first video game by the name of 'Blastar' to a magazine company for approximately $500 USD.
Elon did not have an easy childhood, as he was bullied by his peers through most of his young life. At one point, he was beat so brutally he had to be hospitalized after being thrown down a flight of stairs and losing consciouness. These experiences may or may not have molded Elon into who he is today, giving him the motivation and driving force needed to push the world of space travel and energy beyond the limits we had them set at.
Elon Musk was accepted into Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario at the age of 19. After brokering deals with The New York Times and the Chicago Tribune, the Musk brothers sold Zip2 in 1999 for almost $350 million.
