The emancipation proclamation was a proclamation made by President Lincoln in an attempt to change the meaning of the civil war. There were many social and legal implications of the amendment, the content of the proclamation was incredibly important too, and the emancipation left a lasting legacy on the world till today. The social implications of the proclamation is that it opened peoples mind about the issue of slavery and changed their focus on the war, the legal implications of the proclamation is that it helped the freeing of slaves in the Confederacy and let freed slaves from the Confederacy join the Union military, the content of the Emancipation Proclamation was mainly that all slaves in the Confederacy side would be recognized as free …show more content…
Because of this, the world was considering helping the Confederacy win the war, this was called Cotton Buoyancy. By writing the Emancipation Proclamation, it changed the meaning of the war from upholding the union to abolishing slavery. The other countries that were considering helping out the Confederacy had already abolished slavery in the country's regions and were already firmly against the idea of slavery. By changing the aspect of the war to abolish slavery, the other nations did not help the Confederacy win. This was a good plan on Lincoln's part because by allowing the other countries to help out the Confederacy, the Union had a much higher chance of losing to the Confederacy. The Legacy of the Emancipation Proclamation was that along with changing the viewpoints of slavery to quite a few in the north, the Emancipation Proclamation also changed the main idea of slavery for the future as well. The emancipation proclamation laid the groundwork for the abolishment of slavery and it was the first major step taken towards the abolishment of slavery, and would lead up to the thirteenth amendment that would ban slavery in the United States of
