Reading through the various comics written by Lynda Berry, the initial reaction of the comics was shock and of course humor. Berry uses distorted figures and personification to express her message. The images are dark and paints a portrayal of her mindset. For instance, the comic titled "Emergency Ward for Ernie Pook", the face of the character isn't fully formed. It has the basic features the there isn't a firm structure in the face. In the book "Understanding Comics" by Scott McCloud he says simplifying the face gives the reader a better chance of imagining themselves on the comic. McCloud explains that we have a clear image in our mind of other people but when it comes to ourselves, we tend to over simplify our features in our mind. Berry
