Emmett Louis Till Thesis

Emmett Louis Till was born in Chicago on July 25, 1941. He was the only child of Louis and Mamie Till. His father was a private in the United States Army during World War 2. But Till never knew him. Mamie and Louis Till separated in 1942,and a couple years later, the family received word that he had been executed for “wilful misconduct” while serving in Italy. Emmett’s Mother Mamie was the fourth black student to ever graduate from Chicago’s mainly white Argo Community High School. She was the first black student to make the school’s “A” Honor Roll. Although she was raising Emmett, she worked long hours as a clerk in charge of confidential files for the Air Force. While his mother worked, Till was being cared for by his grandmother.
