Today is the day of the Emmett Till murder trial, taking place in my home town of Sumner, Mississippi. An innocent 14 year old black boy was lynched by two white men. He was beaten, shot and thrown into a river. The black community is outraged, eager to see what punishment they will receive. As I wait outside of the courthouse with about a dozen other people, I think, What if that were me? What if I was killed for doing something as minor and innocent as whistling at a white girl?
