The article investigates martial satisfaction during emotionally focused couples therapy (Dalgleish et al., 2015). Emotionally focused couple therapy (EFT) is an approach that emphasizes attachment theory to recognize the needs and emotions of intimate partners. Couples therapy is prevalent and constantly gaining popularity, specifically emotionally focused couple therapy. As such, this approach has a proven 70–73% recovery rate for relationship distress. However, there is not much research on the predictors of outcome and change in EFT. According to Dalgleish (2015), understanding these predictors will allow modifications for more effective EFT treatment. Thus, the authors anticipated positive growth in marital satisfaction during EFT treatment.
Methodology
The participating couples were recruited through media announcements, posters at local agencies, and referrals from a local organization (Dalgleish et al., 2015). The participants of this study included, 32 couples over the age of 25, in a committed, long-term, heterosexual relationship, which have been living together for at least 1 year. The session evaluating martial satisfaction and attachment uncertainty lasted 3 hours. Participants were compensated 20 dollars per hour of the session. After this, participants then attended EFT sessions at different local agencies. After each EFT session, participants were asked to complete a 32-item self-report assessment to measure relationship
