December 21, 2012 End of The World
Many individuals believe that the end of the world is soon to come. They base their ideas in hypothesis that Mayans did, beliefs announced in news, events happening or religion. In reality no one knows if this will happen soon. Many individuals back up their beliefs with religion and wars. They state that the bible shows some events that will happen when the world will end and they say that they are starting to occur. People have stated that the end of the world will be on December 21, 2012. A part of the world’s population is starting to physically, spiritually and emotionally prepare for this catastrophic event. People actually started to prepare for this event. Brouwer (2008) stated, “Two years ago, Patrick Geryl, then 51, quit his job as a laboratory worker for a French oil company. He'd saved up just enough money to last him until December 2012. After that, he thought, he wouldn't need it anyway.” It shows how people that do care prepare with a good amount of time. Individuals are starting to go more often to church to seek spiritual help, while others prepare physically by building places that resist anything and prepare a good amount of food. There are a handful of people that do not care about this and think that this is an absurd situation. These people do not prepare at all and show no interest to what other people think. Wellman (2011) stated “Mayans measured different way than today. They used centuries instead of years; they did not want to match end of the time. Movie 2012 is not based on Mayan’s Beliefs; they do not use their calendar no more. Mayan calendar started in 3135 B.C., and it is not calibrated with present calendar, Gregorian calendar.” One cause to these believes are because of religion. The bible has places where the end of the world is going to happen. It states some things that might happen. For example, wars, more deaths, dramatic climate change, and unusual happenings. In the book 2Peter3 (2012) stated “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness.” This gives people that reasons to have faith that the end of the world will happen. The ones who do believe this will happen are starting to prepare spiritually. They go more often to church, feast, pray more and are more involved in church activities. The truth is that if God comes like the bible says, those kind things they did in the world do not count what counts is how good an individual relationship is with god. These events will happen just that they will not be a specific date. Why this? For those who believe in bible (Christian, Catholic, Jehovah Witness and Mormons) know that the bible says that the day and time no one knows, not even the angels in heaven. If the angels that are near to God do not know the time and hour how can people, less than angels, know exactly when the end of the world will occur. Wellman (2011) stated, “If someone predicts the coming of Christ, you can know for a fact that you are listening to a false prophet. Mark 13:32 says, “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” People take this end of the world too serious and do things that are absurd, because no one would do it. “Morrison said that one letter was from a middle school teacher in Stockton, Calif., who said that the parents of a student said they were planning to kill their kids and themselves. Another was from an elderly person, who said that her best friend was a little dog. The writer asked when the dog should be put to
