Every community is affected by different problems and some of the same problems as well. In my community one of our biggest problems is the language barrier between citizens. I reside in El Paso, Tx which shares its border with the city of Juarez, Mexico. The border between Mexico and America is an open border, meaning that Mexican citizens are free to come and go into America as they please. This provides problems in as such the business, citizens, and even the local law enforcement have developed an English second mentality. I believe there are some simple solutions to fix this growing issue.
While I don’t have a problem with the border being open per say I do have a problem with Mexican citizens working in America and living in Mexico, which causes a huge language barrier. Mexicans should be allowed to come over here and work, because technically our country was built by immigrants, but I believe they should be required to take and pass an English proficiency test first. This course of action would go a long way in fixing our issues with the language barrier. I firmly believe that if you are going to be employed here and take jobs away from citizens of this country then you should have the common courtesy to speak the native language. It would be nice to walk into a store and be greeted in English first, not Spanish, since I do live in America and I have fought for the freedoms of this country overseas. I would never expect to walk into another country, get a job, and expect them to learn my language so we could communicate.
The other thing we need to do is stop catering to the Spanish speaking people of our community like we owe them
